1. Determine Desired Outcomes. It’s not enough to simply say, “we have a problem – let’s train everyone.” Instead, you must figure out exactly where things aren’t working the way you want or need them to, and what success in those areas would look like.
2. Identify Specific Points of Pain and Failure. In the next step, you match desired successful outcomes with the improvements in actions, information and abilities that support them.
3. Determine Desired Behaviors, Knowledge and Skills. Once you know which specific problems you need to address, you can match training topics to the identified skill gaps.
4. Set Training Timelines and Priorities. Once you know which issues need to be addressed, establish the full training agenda. First, determine the targeted end date for the initiative as a whole, and then rank priorities for individual groups and sessions and put them on a schedule.
5. Select Training Needs Assessment and Formats. Now that you know what your goals are, who needs to be trained and on what, and how quickly the program needs to be complete, you can select how you want to administer training.
6. Pinpointing Problem or Opportunity. This is the starting stage in performing needs assessment; you need to first identify the problem or opportunity to address.

6 Step Training Needs Analysis For Modern Organisations

1. Determine the desired outcome. Your firm needs to articulate the goal of the training. More directly – what are the expected business outcomes of the training?
2. Determine competencies which drive the desired outcomes. From these identified business outcomes, there will be associated staff behaviours. These behaviours are a result of staff
3. Identify which competencies are trainable. Once you have identified a series of competencies which can drive desired business outcomes, we now need to consider if the solution is training.
4. Evaluate existing staff competencies. With a targeted list of competencies, you can now determine the extent to which your employees possess these desired competencies.
5. Determine performance gaps. Next, individual results should be combined to assess how many staff are in need of improvement in particular competencies.
6. Prioritise training needs. Finally, you should aggregate the results from Step 5 with information on the performance gap pervasiveness. That is, you should total how many, or what percentage, of the targeted workforce needs the training.

8.4 Designing A Training Program – Human Resource Management

Preview

Just Now

1. Needs Assessment. The first step in developing a training program is to determine what the organization needs in terms of training. There are three levels of training needs assessment: organizational assessment, occupational (task) assessment, and individual assessment
2. Learning Objectives. After you have determined what type of training should occur, learning objectives for the training should be set. A learning objective is what you want the learner to be able to do, explain, or demonstrate at the end of the training period.
3. Learning Styles. Understanding learning styles is an important component to any training program. For our purposes, we will utilize a widely accepted learning style model.
4. Delivery Mode. Depending on the type of training that needs to be delivered, you will likely choose a different mode to deliver the training. An orientation might lend itself best to vestibule training, while sexual harassment training may be better for web-based training.
5. Budget. How much money do you think the training will cost? The type of training performed will depend greatly on the budget. If you decide that web-based training is the right delivery mode, but you don’t have the budget to pay the user fee for the platform, this wouldn’t be the best option.
6. Delivery Style. Taking into consideration the delivery method, what is the best style to deliver this training? It’s also important to keep in mind that most people don’t learn through “death by PowerPoint”; they learn in a variety of ways, such as auditory, kinesthetic, or visual.
7. Audience. Considering your audience is an important aspect to training. How long have they been with the organization, or are they new employees? What departments do they work in?
8. Content Development. The content you want to deliver is perhaps one of the most important parts in training and one of the most time-consuming to develop.
9. Timelines. For some types of training, time lines may be required to ensure the training has been done. This is often the case for safety training; usually the training should be done before the employee starts.
10. Communication. Once you have developed your training, your next consideration is how you will communicate the available training to employees. In a situation such as an orientation, you will need to communicate to managers, staff, and anyone involved in the training the timing and confirm that it fits within their schedule.

1. A training analysis is conducted ultimately to identify what areas of knowledge or behaviors that training needs to accomplish with learners. The analysis considers what results the organization needs from the learner, what knowledge and skills the learner presently has and usually concludes with identifying what knowledge and skills the learner must gain (the "performance gap"). Usually this phase also includes identifying when training should occur and who should attend as learners. Ideally, criteria are established for the final evaluation of training to conclude if training goals were met or not. Depending on the resources and needs of the organization, a training analysis can range from a very detailed inventory of skills to a general review of performance results. The more complete the training analysis, the more likely that the employee's training will ultimately contribute results to the organization. Note that employees can require training for a variety of reasons, which u...
