6 hours agoHow to Succeed in Your New Job: The First Week, Month and 90 Da

1. Establish your new employee procedures. Before you begin developing a new hire training program, you need to know where you are going. If your company has never identified exactly what each new employee should know, now’s the time to do it.
2. Ensure that all managers use a new hire training checklist. It’s easy to forget where each employee is in the onboarding process. Creating a new employee checklist can help.
3. Start onboarding before day one. Think about your first new day at your job. You were likely nervous—unsure of where to park, when to show up, how to dress, where to eat, or who to talk to.
4. Include onboarding best practices into your procedures. Successful companies are successful because of their employees. And employees are successful because their smart managers understand and utilize best practices for employee onboarding.
5. Train for culture, not just topics. Company culture (think Google’s nap pods and their plethora of freebies from food to massage) can vary wildly. Train for your company’s culture, not just the practical information.
6. Build in regular reviews and adjustments to your training program. Finally, one of the best practices for employee onboarding is to show a continued commitment to their growth.
7. Introductions. On the first day, greet these new employees with enthusiasm, introduce yourself and tell them about your position in the company.
8. Onboarding Schedule. Onboarding includes a lot of information about the company, industry, product, customers, and new tools.

6 Reasons Why New Hires Dread Onboarding Online Training …

Preview

Just Now

Estimated Reading Time: 7 mins
1. First Day Information Overload. Most organizations wait for the first day to begin online training. Effective onboarding begins long before. Distributing online training material to employees before the first day helps them to familiarize themselves with the organization and its policies.
2. Using Outdated Online Training Content. Stop using the content you had developed for employees who joined your organization back in 2010. Online training has evolved over the years.
3. Generic Onboarding Online Training. You have probably hired new people in various departments and you want to cut onboarding training costs. To achieve this, you use the "one-size-fits-all" approach.
4. Unrealistic Expectations. It isn’t uncommon to find organizations setting very high hopes for newbies. It is natural to expect the best. However, expecting employees to complete and internalize onboarding online training within the first few days is a tad unrealistic.
5. Inaccurate First Impression. Most organizations fail to take the human element into consideration. For example, how new hires feel about their first day or the job requirements.
6. Lack Of Experience. Many new hires feel anxious about onboarding online training because they simply lack the necessary skills or experience. The online training activities may require them to use pre-existing knowledge that they just don’t have now.

2. Create And Automate The Orientation Program. Achieving all the goals above is not an easy job without a good plan. An employee orientation program can help ensure that you're fully prepared to welcome new team members (and mitigate unpleasant surprises).
3. Automate: Put The Repeatable Parts Of The Orientation Program Online. Inducting employees can be time and energy consuming. This is particularly true for rapidly developing companies that are constantly hunting for talent.
4. Build An Effective Learning Environment. To implement an online employee orientation program, you need a Learning Management System (LMS). This kind of software will help you put induction training on autopilot.

2. Clarify organizational structure. Make sure your new hires have access to their colleagues’ professional backgrounds. For example, your LMS could include employees’ resumes, job descriptions and even their areas of expertise.
3. Give them the lay of the land. Your new hire will likely receive an office tour on their first day. Still, in the flurry of new spaces and new faces, they’re unlikely to remember much.
4. Host live online training events. Schedule regular live training sessions, such as presentations and webinars, as part of your new hire online training.

1. Reach out to new hires before their start date. “Studies show that roughly 33% of employees decide to stay onboard with a firm or jump ship within their first 30 days of employment.”
2. Make their first day memorable. “Nearly 89% of new hires said that they wanted to meet with their new manager on the first day of employment, while 83% said they had the expectation of being introduced to colleagues on their first day in order to start off on a positive note.”
3. Keep their schedule tightly structured (at least to start) “Organizations with a strong onboarding process improve new hire retention by 82% and productivity by over 70%.”
4. Form a cross-departmental onboarding team. “In a study that followed 409 college graduates through their first two years on the job, the degree of supervisor support that new employees felt during that time period had implications for role clarity, job satisfaction and even their salary over time.”
5. Spread out the paperwork. “Eighty percent of HR administrations say onboarding paperwork is completed in person at a desk or in a conference room.” Source: ADP.
6. Get the whole company involved. “A meta-analysis conducted by two of us examined the findings of 70 separate studies and showed that feeling socially accepted was a key factor in newcomer success.
7. Set expectations early and often. “Fifty-eight percent of employees are likely to stay at a company for three years if they experience a great onboarding program.”
8. Allow new hires to give their own feedback. “In a recent poll, 38% of employees felt that when leaders dismiss their ideas without entertaining them, they tend to lack initiative.
9. Communicate the culture early and often. “A one star increase in career opportunities and culture and values ratings on Glassdoor raises the odds that employees will stay at their companies when moving into their next role by five percent, respectively.”
10. Don’t expect new hires to hit the ground running. “…it takes up to eight months for a new hire to reach full potential….” Source: “How to Make New Employees More Productive, According to Research,” Inc.com.

10 Tips For A Successful New Hire Training Plan Employers …

Preview

1. Train for the Type of People You Hire. Are you hiring sales, development, retail, or manual labor? You’ll want to tailor your training plan to fit the strengths of the person you’ve hired.
2. Train for Your Brand. You need your employees to want to work in your business and represent your brand. Let them in on the big picture early by teaching them your company values and mission statement.
3. Eliminate the Fear of Failure. Your new hire is learning, in some cases, totally new skills. Completely eliminate the fear of failing. All new hire’s have it, you’ve had it before.
4. Make The Right Connections. Do you remember the first day at a new school? You meet a million people, learn a million different things, and you hit information overload at about… noon.
5. Extend the “First Day Lunch Date” Instead of the token first day lunch with their direct manager, expand on that idea. As I mentioned above, make their first day a group lunch with a few of their most frequent contacts.
6. Provide Easy Access Resources. Give your new hire a list of go-to resources and give them a little time to explore it. You don’t want a new hire coming to you asking for simple things like this.
7. Make Yourself Available. Hiring is stressful, being the new hire can be just as (if not more) stressful. Make sure you’re available to check in a couple times a day and encourage them to ask questions whenever they need.
8. Put It in Writing. New hires will forget the massive amounts of information that is unloaded on them during their first day. Not only should you provide them a resource of easily accessible information, but you should have the entire training plan in writing.
9. Give Positive Feedback. Give a little praise and positive feedback to your new hire as well as any employees involved in the training plan. Training takes a lot of effort on everyone’s behalf and often requires time and repetition.
10. Have Fun! One of our four core values at Employers Resource is to have fun! We think fun can be incorporated into everything you do. OK, maybe not everything, but you can make training fun!
