Robotic assisted gait training (RAGT) or robotic assisted walking is cutting-edge technology used in the rehabilitation of neurological injuries and conditions like spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, cerebral palsy. For example, after spinal cord injury the nerves supplying different parts of the body (arms and legs) may be affected and the signal to turn on and off those muscles may be absent or weak. A specific type of robotic assisted device can allow spinal cord injured clients to perform movements and function that might be otherwise impossible. Robotic assisted devices are also used to enhance the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions such as osteoarthritis of the knee and hip, deconditioning after injury. By pairing exercise and functional movements (sit to stand, stairs, kneeling) using RAGT we are able to improve client’s patterning, strength and endurance during all types of movements.
