1. Review of Basic Operations. This lesson reviews the basic operations and some associated ideas, setting the stage for learning about fractions, the first main topic of the course.
2. Fractions I. This lesson provides a foundation for understanding how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions--a topic to which we will turn in the next lesson.
3. Fractions II. In this lesson, we apply our fundamental understanding of fractions from the previous lesson to the basic arithmetic operations.
4. Decimals, Percents, and Ratios. In the previous two lessons, we discussed fractions at length. As you have probably noticed, however, most basic calculators (as well as many more-advanced calculators) do not deal with fractions.
5. Exponents I. In this lesson, we introduce exponents, which are a way to represent repeated multiplication (just as multiplication is a way to represent repeated addition).
6. Exponents II. Specifically, this lesson considers rules for multiplying and dividing expressions with exponents, and it also explores the meaning of negative exponents.
7. Radicals I. By the end of this lesson, you should be able to handle numbers raised to any exponent, and you will also be equipped to study arithmetic operations on radical expressions in the next lesson.
8. Radicals II. The mathematical tools we study in this lesson allow us to at least partially evaluate radical expressions without losing exactness in the result (unlike what would happen if we simply used a calculator).
9. Variables and Algebraic Relations. This lesson focuses mainly on the concepts associated with these topics and lays a foundation for studying in later lessons how to graph relations and solve simple equations.
10. Graphing Algebraic Relations. In this lesson, we learn how to graph simple and moderately complicated algebraic relations. 10 Total Points. Lesson 10 Video.

1. Once a Pre-Algebra class has helped students gain a good basic understanding of numbers, operations, and properties, the concepts are combined as they learn about algebraic equations. Courses first introduce one-step equations before proceeding to two-step equations. Pre-Algebra equations typically feature only one variable, as two-variable equations are not usually introduced until Algebra I, but integers, fractions, and decimals may be added to equations in order to refresh students understanding of these concepts and make problems more challenging. Students also learn how to write and solve equations based on word problems that have one or two unknowns. Pre-Algebra courses also familiarize students with graphing in preparation for more advance math classes. Students learn how to work simple problems involving lines and points on the coordinate plane, as well as how to analyze information presented in the form of figures and graphs. Pre-Algebra finally introduces students to basic geometric concepts, focusing on the calculation of perimeter, area, and volume for a variety of simple two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes. Varsity Tutors free Pre-Algebra Practice Tests can help students review basic algebra concepts while taking Pre-Algebra courses, or they can refresh these concepts after completing Pre-Algebra. Each twelve-question, multiple-choice test offers statistics of students scores, including full explanations for each problem. Concepts are organized in Practice Tests, which draw from each Pre-Algebra topic and create a comprehensive review; questions can also be organized by concept, allowing students to focus just on concepts they personally do not understand. By making the most of the free Pre-Algebra resources offered by Varsity Tutors, students can study what they need to study, when they need to study it, setting themselves up for success in Pre-Algebra and more advanced math classes.
