2. Add Real-World Tests To Your Training... While necessary in itself, theoretical leadership training for managers is a very different experience from actually being a leader.
3. And Fake Ones Too. Law firms often run "mock trials"―imitations of actual trials (complete with fake judges and jurors) meant to help train new lawyers.
4. Don't Neglect Concrete Skills Training. While leadership skills are essential for employees in management roles, a great leader must also possess a fair number of hard skills.
5. Bring In External Experts. Earlier in our list of leadership training activities, we talked about encouraging a mentorship culture in your company. To take that to the next level, you can go beyond your pool of senior managers, and bring in experienced industry figures and leadership consultants from outside the company to coach your employees.
6. Measure And Improve. The first step to improving anything, including the effectiveness of your leadership training activities, is to measure it. Soft skills can be notoriously difficult to measure precisely, but you can have a pretty good idea by monitoring how well your prospective managers handle various leadership tasks and grading their performance.
7. Study The Past. “Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it”—or so the saying goes. Include the study of past blunders made by your company's previous management in your leadership training program, so that your new team leaders can avoid repeating them.
8. Encourage Further Study. Learning doesn't (or, rather, shouldn't) end when your training program does. During training, instill in your leaders the importance of continuous improvement and learning, and encourage them to study on their own, above and beyond what your leadership training program teaches them.

11 Powerful Leadership Training Activities For Employees

1. Simple icebreaking questions. For the number of employees you have, write a list of questions that are light-hearted but potentially revealing. Have employees randomly pick a number and answer the question that corresponds.
2. Thirty seconds left. Following up on the icebreaking questions, have employees consider the best experiences of their life. Have them reflect and then select one before refining it down to the best 30 seconds of that experience.
3. Back-to-back drawing. Split into pairs and have them sit back-to-back. Give one person paper and pen; the other gets an object. The person with the object describes it without naming it (you can ban other identifying phrases, too), and the other person draws it.
4. Office trivia. This activity tests knowledge specific to your office. You could divide participants by the teams they regularly work in, or allow employees to form their own teams.
5. Qualities of a leader. Break employees into teams and have them share leaders they admire (in any industry). Take notes on the characteristics that these leaders share, then give employees time and space to reflect on the characteristics they share with those leaders before identifying skills they would like to develop.
6. Desert island. Employees come together to select five items to bring to a desert island. The group has to come to consensus, and one person presents the agreed-upon list.
7. Moon shot. You can start this activity in one of two ways: have employees brainstorm crazy, innovative ideas for your company, or bring two or three of your own to the table.
8. Explore virtual reality (VR) In everything from surgical training to car design to accident damage assessment, virtual reality is a leadership training activity that helps not only strengthen current leadership but also identify and develop potential leaders among your employees.
9. Use augmented reality (AR) Remember Pokémon Go? When this augmented reality (AR) app came out in 2016 it was hard to avoid people stopped in the middle of the sidewalk, capturing a Pokémon with their mobile device.
