Learn multivariable calculus for free—derivatives and integrals of multivariable functions, application problems, and more.
What does it mean to take the derivative of a function whose input lives in multiple dimensions? What about when its output is a vector? Here we go over many different ways to extend the idea of a derivative to higher dimensions, including partial derivatives , directional derivatives, the gradient, vector derivatives, divergence, curl, etc.

The " Hessian matrix " of a multivariable function , which different authors write as , , or , organizes all second partial derivatives into a matrix: This only makes sense for scalar-valued function. This object is no ordinary matrix; it is a matrix with functions as entries. In other words, it is meant to be evaluated at some point .

Yes. No. Description. Posted. Oct 2021. In multivariable calculus, we progress from working with numbers on a line to points in space. It gives us the tools to break free from the constraints of one-dimension, using functions to describe space, and space to describe functions. Provider. Khan Academy.

I’ve absolutely fallen in love with calculus and have wanted to continue through calc iii and iv since the beginning of the year. So, after a lot of back and forth trying to find a class, I’m going to use the online MIT course for multivariable calculus! I had briefly taken calculus last summer through the same website and it helped a lot.

Khan Academy has 2 sets of the Calc I and II material, labeled Calc AB & BC, and then two sections titled Differential and Integral Calculus. I went through the BC sequence and then the Multivariable one. I was able to, using KA as my main study source, score a 76 out of 80 on the test. I had self studied calculus in the past (on KA and with
