Virtual Reality goggles allows the student pilot to look in any direction using accelerometers and gyroscopes (see figure 3b). This means the student may look beyond the 180 degree field of view provided by traditional flight simulators, and is able to practice lookouts the same way he or she would do it in the real aircraft.

"We see virtual reality as a key element of future flight training as it has the potential of improving and accelerating our pilot training. VRpilot is able to understand our needs and has tailored their software to our procedures and aircraft. We are looking forward to future collaborations with VRpilot."
Virtual reality aircraft simulators, such as Bohemia Interactive’s BISimulator, make pilot training more cost-effective and adaptable. With a VR headset, a joystick and a throttle, an unlimited number of cockpits can be generated without the need to build replicas.

Viewing positive scenes through virtual reality (VR) has been shown to increase positive affect and holds great promise for addressing anhedonic symptoms. In this pilot study, six participants with clinically significant depression completed 13 sessions of exposure to positive scenes in a controlled VR environment.

virtual reality technology as a flight simulation method that supports training of high-risk scenarios and has major cost saving potential compared to traditional flight simulators. Participants flew three predefined circuits in a traditional flight simulator graphics condition (Broad Angle Display System, (BADS)), and conducted the same flight path and tasks using a VR …

When training through using a VR, all a pilot-in-training would need is a headset, a joystick, and possibly a throttle. The rest can be generated by the VR technology. This also saves a whole lot of space which can then be devoted to other activities. An example of an aircraft simulator run on VR technology is the BISimulator by Bohemia Interactive. This has made the training of pilots …

You may be training a pilot to land, but if the dynamics of the simulation aren’t very good, it’s not going to be very useful and could even be harmful.” The new simulator hooks into any airplane and layers a virtual reality scene over the real world outside the cockpit. “You actually get the dynamics of the exact airplane you’re flying,” Cogan says. That means external factors

But virtual reality is about to change the way students are taught at pilot training schools, in what is set to be more than just a breakthrough for technology. A VR pilot training system has the potential to significantly lower flight training costs while decreasing Air Force budgets.
The training simulation from Future Visual can also be used to train ground crew in repairing aircraft systems. In addition to training opportunities, VR allows aviation engineers to easily manipulate and view complex structures such as jet engines and turboprops, while pilots are able to interact more effectively with their equipment.
Flight Training can be expensive. Whether you fly as a student or fly as an experienced pilot, every hour of flight costs you. You don’t have control. Well with VR Flight you gain the control. You set yourself up once and practice whenever you want and for as long as you want.
While there are no immediate plans to abandon the old technology, the results using the new VR tech is amazing. In the United States, the Air Force’s Pilot Training Next program saw a dozen students out of a class of thirty earn their wings within four months. With the traditional training method, it takes a year to achieve the same results.
