1. National Genealogical SocietyThe National Genealogical Society, Arlington, VA, offers two courses, both approved by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council: 1. Introduction to Genealogy: An Online Course began in 1999 as an online course for beginners. Lesson One: Genealogical Basics is free to everyone. It teaches how to number ancestors, how to record names, dates, and places in a standard format, and definitions for terms of relationship. If you're looking to advance your knowledge in a particular genealogical research skill or geographical area, then the online and independent study courses offered by Family Tree University, an online education program from the publishers of Family Tree Magazine, might be what you are looking for.
9. BYU Center for Family History and Genealogy. The genealogy programs at BYU are on-site in Utah, with the exception of a handful of free, online, independent study courses, but the well-known program offers a BA in Family History (Genealogy) as well as a minor or a certificate in Family History.

3. UK National Archives Family History. If you have British ancestry then the courses available at the UK National Archives will be invaluable to you. These classes are provided as either video webinars or audio files that you can watch or listen to online.
4. YouTube. Videos are a great way for us to learn, aren’t they? We retain more information by watching videos than by reading text on either a screen or in a book.
5. National Genealogical Society. I have added this course last because the only way that you will get access to the Family History Skills course is if you are already a National Genealogical Society (NGS) member.
