Acquiring Your Engineering Qualifications. The requirements to become an engineer typically include a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline. These can include a biomedical engineering, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering degree. A master's degree may be needed for advancement in some fields.
Many schools offer engineering degree programs that are 100% online, while others prefer hybrid models that require some time on campus. Overall, students must earn a minimum of 120 credit hours.
Engineering programs at the bachelor degree level are not offered online as much as master degree programs because of the internship requirements, but they are offered online. An example of an online program is the online electrical engineering program at Arizona State University.
