1. If you’re traveling to the United Kingdom and want to bring your drone, the CAA lists these special considerations for foreigners who want to fly drones: 1. If you are a drone operator from overseas and want to carry out work in the U.K. (i.e., you want to do commercial drone work in the U.K.), the CAA will normally be able to grant permissions to foreign operators, on the basis that you are able to satisfy the same basic safety requirements that are required for U.K.-based operators. 2. Drone approvals / qualifications from other nations are not ‘automatically’ accepted as being valid. In order to fly in the U.K., you must be in possession of a valid U.K. permission if the type of flight that you are conducting requires one. Each application is considered on its own merits, but we will take the details of your own national approval / qualification into account when determining your application and the conditions that are set within the permission. All applications should be made as...

Where Can I Fly My Drone? 5 Things You Need To Know About

Preview

1. Author: Joe Svetlik

Estimated Reading Time: 5 mins
2. KEEP IT LOW AND CLOSE. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) lays down the law in its Dronecode. The first point is you must keep the drone below 400 feet (122m) - presumably so it doesn't collide with commercial aircraft - and always within your line of sight.
3. KEEP IT AWAY FROM OTHER FLYING OBJECTS. This one is pure common sense. You have to keep your drone away from aircraft, helicopters, airports and airfields.
4. BE CAREFUL AROUND PUBLIC PLACES. It's perfectly legal to fly your drone in a public place like a park or beach, but you have to be careful how you fly.
5. BUSY AREAS ARE A NO-NO. You're also not allowed to go near crowded public events like concerts, football matches and rallies, as well as what the law defines as "congested areas", which includes streets, towns and cities (even if they're quiet).
6. COMMERCIAL USE COMES AT A COST. If you want to use your done for commercial reasons - basically anything you earn money for - you'll need permission from the CAA.
