8 Steps To Create And Develop An Effective Mobile Training

Preview

Estimated Reading Time: 8 mins
1. Identify your target audience and the primary objectives of your eLearning course. The first step in developing a successful mobile training strategy is to identify who will actually be accessing the information.
2. Determine how your mobile training content will be distributed. Are you going to make your content available on all platforms, such as iOS and Android?
3. Create high quality and mobile-friendly content. This is one of the most important aspects of a mobile training strategy, given that eLearning content you are currently using may not be ideal for mobile training purposes.
4. Boost User Engagement Through Emotional Involvement. Given that learners may be on-the-go when they're accessing your mobile training courses or modules, you need to ensure that your content is engaging and draws the learner in from the very start.
5. Integrate Social Learning strategies. Much of the mobile training experience is asynchronous, meaning that students learn on their own. However, you can easily transform it into an interactive and engaging social learning course by integrating social media into your strategy.
6. Ensure the Security of your mobile training platform. One of the primary concerns of mobile training is security, given that smart phones and other mobile devices have the capacity to download information.
7. Test, revise, and launch. Before you officially launch your mobile training course, it's essential to test and revise. Try to pinpoint areas that may need to be fine-tuned or catch any glitches before allowing learners to log on.
8. Continually assess the effectiveness of your mobile training strategy. As is the case with all things in the world of Instructional Design and eLearning, a mobile training strategy should always be a work in progress.

MobileFriendly Online Courses: 10 Rules For ELearning …

1. Break Content Into 1-2 Minute Modules. The internet has drastically minimized our ability to concentrate. Twitter and Instagram have habituated us to consuming information in small chunks: on average, one session lasts as little as 72 seconds.
2. Track Progress. A good mobile app makes a digital bookmark when users take a break, and reminds them to pick up where they left off. If you don’t want to break up a larger course into modules, the app still saves the progress and allows learners to study the material in several steps.
3. Find Out How Users Hold Their Devices. People hold their phones differently depending on the model, situation, and particular task, as proven in a study by Steven Hoober.
4. Put Important Things in the Center. When people read on mobile devices, their attention is focused on the center of the screen.Take a look at these heatmaps
5. Work Out Tutorial. Opening a course for the first time is like being a stranger in a strange land. If you don’t want your users to get lost, give them a quick tour: show all the buttons and explain their functions.
6. Minimize Text on Slides. If there’s a lot of text on the screen, it’s small and difficult to read on mobile devices. Remove unnecessary words and break down long sentences; one line should contain a maximum of 40 characters.
7. Add A Progress Bar to Your Course. It’s easier for a learner to finish what they’ve started when they can clearly see how much is done and how much is left.
8. Use 16 Pixels Font Size or More. When reading articles on the web, text can be scaled as necessary. For e-courses, it’s not always possible, so use 16px or larger fonts.
9. Make Interactive Objects Fat-Finger Friendly. Fat-finger syndrome is when interactive objects are too small and users can easily click the wrong element.
10. Stop Using Hyperlinks. Hyperlinks are often used in e-courses for desktops. However, when creating mobile-first content, it’s better to avoid them, because users might unintentionally tap on a link when swiping between pages.

1. One of the main premises of social learning is that meaningful interactions among individuals can lead to increased understanding. Social networking as an educational tool naturally promotes collaboration and participation and therefore, it could profoundly transform traditional educational settings and practices. By using social media and participating in virtual communities, educators can become facilitators of interactions and content curators while students can model and produce—as opposed to passively consume—the learning content.
