1. Go to class regularly. I know this one is mind-numbingly obvious but it’s important. Many professors lecture directly from PowerPoint and post the slides to the internet.
2. Participate in class. If you’re shy or new to the college experience, it can be difficult to muster enough courage to participate in class. Nevertheless, that is exactly what you need to do.
3. Organize yourself. If you don’t have a study strategy, you can study all day and night and still not get anywhere. The only sure way to make the most of your study time is to employ a study strategy that complements your schedule and learning style.
4. Do a weekly study review. A common problem students encounter is trying to learn an enormous amount of material right before the midterm or final exam.
5. Go to office hours. Professors and TA’s usually make themselves available at regular times during the week for students to ask questions about assignments.
6. Befriend with smart students with high GPA. In courses that involve group work, this is essential. No one wants to get stuck with a bunch slackers, have to do all the work themselves, and end up with a poor grade to show for it.
7. Avoid all-nighters. Generally, having to pull an all-nighter means that you slacked off all semester and need to fit 3 months of learning into one day.
8. Make use of Library. Dorm rooms aren’t the best place to study. It’s way too easy to get distracted by roommates and visitors. Your study time canl be more productive if you use your school’s library or a similar facility.
9. Study Smart. Some professors and schools offer opportunities for extra credit. These opportunities are GPA gold mines; try to take advantage of them. Extra credit can boost your average and enhance your college experience.
10. Set a Goal and Reward Yourself. Good grades are their own reward, but it doesn’t hurt to have a little extra incentive. Try setting a GPA goal and rewarding yourself with something that you really want after you achieve it.

How To Apply For Community College: 9Step Guide

Preview

1. Decide Where to Apply. Since community colleges are open access, you don't have to send applications to a few different safety, target, and reach schools as you would for other colleges.
2. Fill Out and Submit Your Online Community College Application. While many 4-year schools use the Common Application or Universal Application, most community colleges have their own online application portals.
3. Provide Your High School Diploma, GED, or Transcript. Community colleges want to see proof of past or upcoming high school graduation. If you don't have your diploma from graduation yet or a GED, you should send a copy of your transcript.
4. Provide Proof of State Residency, If Applicable. If you're applying for in-state tuition, then you may need to provide proof of in-state residency.
5. Submit Your FAFSA. Another important financial consideration is applying for federal financial aid with the FAFSA. Your timeline for this may actually fall earlier than your application to community college.
6. Attend a New Student Orientation. As mentioned above, it's a good idea to attend a campus tour and an information session before you apply to learn more about your prospective school.
7. Take Placement Tests in Math and English. One unique requirement of community colleges is their placement tests. After the college processes your application, you'll be invited to take placement tests to determine your level for math and English classes.
8. Meet With Your Advisor. By the time you meet with an advisor, you should be all set with enrollment and placement testing. Your advisor can talk to you about the classes you want to take, as well as give you guidance about requirements and classes that could transfer credits to a 4-year school, if that's in your plans.
9. Register for Classes. Finally, you'll register for your classes! Full-time students usually take about 4 to 5 classes per semester. The first semester for first years tends to be highly structured, so you may not have a lot of choice with these first few classes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Community College affect your GPA for college?

But some community college classes, or classes retaken for a better grade, will affect your GPA. The CAS does not take into account any class taken after your first bachelor’s degree was awarded.

How does taking online classes affect your GPA?

The answer to all these questions is yes. Taking online courses can affect a grade record positively or negatively. It depends upon how well students use the option. Grades of all official courses taken by a student are averaged into the GPA. If a student fails or does poorly on just one or two classes, he shouldn’t see much impact.

How does a non credit course affect your GPA?

Colleges and universities offer noncredit courses in a range of subject matter. You might receive a certificate of participation if you attend the entire noncredit course, but since you won't receive a grade, the class won't impact your GPA. You also can audit regular university courses.

Is it better to go to community college or Community College?

One 'B' or 'C' can diminish your GPA and its effects are permanent since all post-high school grades have to be reported. Given that your GPA is very competitive, I would suggest that you rather spend the time and effort into preparing for MCAT because the reward is much greater for the time spent than that of taking community college classes.
