Frequently Asked Questions

Why are there lawsuits against audible?

The suits also alleged that Audible wasn’t transparent about how it charged a customer’s card, by moving to a secondary card on file in the event that the primary one was declined. The lawsuits are in the process of being settled. Audible sells audiobooks in a couple of ways.

What happened to Audible’s $15 book credits?

The lawsuit being settled had to do with Audible’s $15 audiobook “credits,” which customers would subscribe to buy one per month. These credits expired after six months if not used, and were lost altogether upon canceling the subscription (though any audiobooks the customers had purchased during that time remain available to them).

What happens to expired audiobook credits on Amazon?

According to Top Class Actions, this could result in Audible dispensing 12 million free audiobooks, and 8.4 million customers could be eligible for overdraft fee compensation. That’s an awful lot of expired audiobook credits. But I suppose it’s not too surprising that a company like Amazon would structure its services in this way.

Is audible captions a copyright infringement?

“Audible Captions takes publishers’ proprietary audiobooks, converts the narration into unauthorised text, and distributes the entire text of these ‘new’ digital books to Audible’s customers,” said the lawsuit. Audible attempted to have the case thrown out, arguing that it was a contract dispute and not a copyright issue.
