1. Using fence gates. You can use fence or baby gates to limit your dog’s access to the house. You can contain the cleaning and also work at home without worrying about your furry family member from getting into trouble.
2. Using playpens or exercise pens. If you have an area at home that your dog can use as his, then this idea may be worth considering. You need to look into the fence structure, though.
3. Taking your dog to work. Some offices allow taking dogs to work. If your company does the same, then perhaps you can think about bringing your dog with you.
4. Keeping them in a fenced yard. If your yard is secured, you may consider letting your furry baby out while you’re away. However, this option will not work if your dog loves barking.
5. Working with a dog watcher. Another option is to have someone to look after your dog. The good thing with this route is that your dog is sure to have his daily dose of exercise.
6. Leaving activities for your dog. For this option, you will still need a sort of confinement for your dog. You don’t want to give him free rein into your house.
7. Taking them to doggie daycare. You may also take your canine companion to doggie daycare. But first, you need to check the center’s requirements. A doggie daycare may have restrictions on the age, needs, and behavior of dogs.
8. Providing constant supervision. This is the most challenging alternative to crate training. It also isn’t 100% possible. This method requires that you look after your furry buddy 24 hours a day to keep him from causing troubles.

1. Baby Gates. Confining your puppy in a safe, easy-to-clean room (generally a kitchen, hallway, laundry room or bathroom) using baby gates has a number of advantages over just letting your dog roam the house or shutting him into a bedroom.
2. Exercise Pens. Exercise pens, or x-pens as they are sometimes called, are a sort of puppy playpen. They create a safe indoor space for your puppy that is larger than a crate, and more open.
3. Fenced Yard. If you have a secure privacy fence, it may be possible to keep your dog outside when no one is home. If you choose this option, be sure your dog doesn’t bark all day and make your neighbors crazy.
4. Doggie Daycare. For those who can afford it, doggie daycare is an excellent alternative to leaving your pup alone all day. He comes home tired and happy, which eliminates many behavior problems you might see if he’s been bored and restless all day.

Paper training, for instance, does not work well since it basically teaches your Rottweiler that it is acceptable to urinate inside. It is difficult for a puppy to understand why it is ok to urinate on the paper and why it is not just an inch or two from it.
