1. Cafe Talk. As I said, Cafe Talk is my favorite Japanese ESL platform. With over 46,000 students, there’s usually plenty of work available for tutors. All you have to do is sign up, create and list your own courses, and start teaching 1-1 lessons.
2. English Everywhere. English Everywhere is another great platform where you can teach English online to Japanese students. Like many of the companies on this list, the lessons take place over Skype but are booked via the platform’s Automatic Reservation System.
3. Eigox. Eigox is an online English school based in Japan that hires English tutors from all around the world. They pay a little less than some of the other companies (600 JPY per 25-minute lesson, or around $10 per hour), but they also have one of the lowest barriers to entry.
4. E-communication. E-communication has one of the highest teacher pay rates on this list. They’ll pay you 2000 – 23000 JPY per hour to teach English online to Japanese students, which works out at around $20 per hour.
5. Mainichi Eikaiwa. Mainichi Eikaiwa advertises itself as Japan’s leading online English school. Most of their students are Japanese and they hire teachers from native English speaking countries like the USA, the UK, Australia, and South Africa.
6. English Hunt. English Hunt actually started off as a Korean ESL company, but they’ve since expanded into Japan. As such, they cater to a mixture of Japanese and Korean students.
7. Eigo Power. Finally, we have Eigo Power. The reason they’re last on this list is that their pay rate, according to a previous job advertisement, is only $5 – $12 USD per hour, which is a little below the industry average.

1. Fruits Basket. This is it, the juggernaut of the shojo world. Fruits Basket had a long-running manga series, and it had an anime in the 2000s, too. Now, a newer and high-def anime relaunch is streaming, and viewers can enjoy the tale of Fruits Basket like never before.
2. Great Teacher Onizuka. This is an older series, but that just means it's a classic. This time, we're seeing things from the perspective of Eikichi Onizuka, a tough gangster who becomes a high school teacher so he can make some inroads with the ladies.
3. A Silent Voice. A list of good high school anime is definitely not complete without this tear-jerker in it. This series has its funny moments, but ultimately, it's a dramatic and heart-wrenching story of bullying, forgiveness, self-acceptance, and much more.
4. Nisekoi. This high school rom-com is a Romeo and Juliet incarnation, and this time we get the son and daughter of two rival crime families! On one side we get Raku Ichijo, from a terrifying yakuza family, and Chitoge Kirisaka, from a mafia family.
5. Toradora! This high school comedy stars the tiny but tough girl Taiga Aisaka, who has a serious reputation for kicking butt. Meanwhile, she ends up in a surprise friendship with Ryuji, who certainly looks scary, but in reality wouldn't harm a fly.
6. Assassination Classroom. This is no ordinary high school. It may not be cursed and there's no body-swapping or gambling, but there is a big yellow alien, Koro-sensei.
7. The Quintessential Quintuplets. This is another harem anime, and it trades magical girls for a set of five identical sisters with clashing personalities.
8. Ouran High School Host Club. This comedy shojo series is set at Ouran high school, where the female lead, Haruhi Fujioka, accidentally breaks a valuable vase.
9. Azumanga Daioh! This is a staple high school anime, and the manga is a must-have for any collection. This series looks tame compared to some others on this list, but it holds up.
10. Nichijou. This high school comedy is truly wacky and insane, even by anime standards! You never know what you'll get with each episode of this whiplash anime, and none of the characters are as simple as they look.
