1. The 2001 Miami Hurricanes. Most universally agree that the 2001 Miami Hurricanes team is the best college football team in college football history. Not only that, but the team had one of the best pools of talent ever seen.
2. The 2005 Texas Longhorns. With quarterback Vince Young leading the offense, the 2005 Texas Longhorns team remains one of the greatest. Coached by Mack Brown, the Longhorns went undefeated in a 13-0 campaign.
3. 2019 LSU Tigers. A perfect 15-0, the Tigers finished the season not only as the number one ranked team in the nation but also as the national champions.
4. 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers. Ranked number 1 nationally, the 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers marched to a 12-0 record under head coach Tom Osborne. Looking to follow their 1994 success, the team beat the Kansas State Wildcats, the Colorado Buffaloes, and the Kansas Jayhawks (all of whom were ranked) during their season.
5. 2018 Clemson Tigers. Coached by Dabo Swinney and led by star quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the Clemson Tigers delivered one of the best seasons in the program’s history.
6. 1979 Alabama Crimson Tide. Having had 6 championships to their name in 1979, many were wondering how the Crimson Tide could top themselves. The Tide found a way to do it during their 1979-1980 Season.
7. 1956 Oklahoma Sooners. Led by future hall of fame head coach Bud Wilkinson and standout quarterback Jim Harris, the Oklahoma Sooners put together one of the most cohesive seasons in team history during their 1956 Campaign.
8. The 1972 USC Trojans. Coached by John Mckay, the 72 Trojans were also very efficient in their offense, easily beating opponents Ohio State, Notre Dame, Washington, and UCLA (all of whom were ranked).
9. The 1971 Nebraska Cornhuskers. The 1971 Cornhuskers had no problems handling business during the 1971 Campaign. Under the tutelage of Bob Devaney, the Cornhuskers went 13-0 beating two teams in the top 10 rankings (The Colorado Buffaloes and the Oklahoma Sooners) and finished the year pummeling Alabama in the Orange Bowl 38-6.
10. The 1994 Penn State Nittany Lions. This team is different from the others included in this list due to the fact that they didn’t actually win a championship.

1. 1971 Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Nebraska Cornhuskers had one of the best football programs in the nation back in the day. They have fallen a bit in recent times but this is a time for us to look back to their glory days.
2. 2001 Miami Hurricanes. The 2001 Miami Hurricanes may have had the most next-level talent than any team in the history of college football. The team as a whole went 12-0 and defeated Nebraska 37-14 to become the national champions.
3. 2004 USC Trojans. Pete Carroll is one of the best coaches in the history of college football and his 2004 team was the best he had. They were ranked #1 throughout the whole season and went on to beat #2 Oklahoma 55-19 for the BCS National Championship.
4. 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers. Another classic Nebraska team to make our list is their 1995 team coached by Tom Osborne. They dominated on both sides of the field scoring an incredible 53.2 PPG and only allowed 14.5 PPG, which ranked 4 in all of college football.
5. 1972 USC Trojans. The University of Southern California has had plenty of good football teams over the years and their 1972 team was one of the best. They were led by head coach John McKay, who won 3 titles in 11 years with the team.
6. 2005 Texas Longhorns. The 2005 Texas Longhorns had one of the most exciting teams in recent memory and were led by head coach Mack Brown and All-American QB Vince Young.
7. 2018 Clemson Tigers. The most recent team on our list is the 2018 Clemson Tigers that were coached by Dabo Swinney. Swinney has turned himself into one of the best coaches in college football and they constantly are competing for national titles.
8. 2009 Alabama Crimson Tide. Alabama has had plenty of good teams under Nick Saban but their 2009 team was probably the best. They were led by QB Greg McElroy but most of their offensive success came from their tandem of RBs Mark Ingram (1658 YDS 17 TDs) and Trent Richardson (751 YDS 8 TDs).
9. 1979 Alabama Crimson Tide. Hall of fame coach Bear Bryant won 6 national championships but this was probably his best team. In typical Bear Bryant fashion Alabama rarely through the ball in their wishbone offense but nobody was able to stop it.
10. 1956 Oklahoma Sooners. The oldest team on our list is the 1956 Oklahoma Sooners who were the most dominant team in the 1956 season. There scoring numbers were eye-popping, they allowed only 5.1 PPG and their own offense was scoring 46.6 PPG.

1. 2001 Miami Hurricanes. 11 of 11. Clinton Portis and Willis McGahee. Nearly everywhere you looked, the 2001 Miami Hurricanes had a future NFL star. That talent showed itself in a legendary way.
2. 1971 Nebraska Cornhuskers. 10 of 11. Johnny Rodgers (No. 20) After claiming the 1970 national title, Nebraska only improved. In 1971, the Cornhuskers ranked third and second, respectively, in scoring offense (39.0) and defense (8.0).
3. 1972 USC Trojans. 9 of 11. Sam Cunningham and Anthony Davis. USC breezed through its 12-game slate in 1972, defeating 11 of its opponents by at least 17 points.
4. 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers. 8 of 11. Tommie Frazier. What we said about LSU? Yeah, that was effectively a repeat of 1995 Nebraska in a slightly less dominant way.
5. 2004 USC Trojans. 7 of 11. Reggie Bush. USC sidestepped a few landmines in Pac-10 play, toppling four league opponents by eight points or fewer. Still, the Trojans never ranked lower than No. 1 in the country.
6. 2019 LSU Tigers. 6 of 11. Ed Orgeron, Joe Burrow and Grant Delpit. While assembling the most prolific offensive year in Football Bowl Subdivision history, LSU defeated seven Top 10 teams.
7. 2018 Clemson Tigers. 5 of 11. Trevor Lawrence. After a 5-0 start that featured two very narrow wins, the Trevor Lawrence-led Tigers became a juggernaut. They outscored their final 10 opponents 474-113, including a 74-19 edge in two College Football Playoff games against No. 3 Notre Dame and No. 1 Alabama.
8. 2005 Texas Longhorns. 4 of 11. Vince Young. If the 2006 Rose Bowl isn't the greatest game ever played, it's certainly no lower than the highest tier in history.
9. 1979 Alabama Crimson Tide. 3 of 11. Bear Bryant. In 1979, Alabama earned the last of six national championships under legendary head coach Bear Bryant. While surrendering just 5.6 points per game, best in the nation, the Crimson Tide posted five shutouts en route to a 12-0 record.
10. 1956 Oklahoma Sooners. 2 of 11. Tommy McDonald. Only four of Oklahoma's 10 opponents even scored a point against them. The Sooners allowed just 51 points all season, second in the nation.
